Warm up for NDT’s Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey with a marathon of Carl Sagan’s original Cosmos this weekend

Before Sunday night’s pan-Fox broadcast of the premier of the Neil deGrasse Tyson-hosted Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, the National Geographic Channel will be running a bifurcated marathon of the original series, the Carl Sagan-hosted Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.

Starting on Saturday at Noon, NatGeo will begin with an airing of The Shores of the Cosmic Ocean, which is still my favorite episode of the original eight thirteen. The programming ends with the 5pm airing of Traveller’s Tales, before picking up on Sunday at Noon with Backbone of the Night. Sunday’s programming ends with a 6pm showing of the original finale, Who Speaks for the Earth?

The new series, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, begins on Sunday night at 8pm on Fox, FX, FXX, Fox Life, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, NatGeo, NatGeo Wild and NatGeo Mundo.  I guess in case your remote control breaks, they just want to make sure it was on whatever channel you were already watching.

The new series, like the original series, was co-written by Ann Druyan, who takes a much larger role as lead writer and producer this time around, and produced by Seth MacFarlane (yes, that Seth MacFarlane).
