How to bake like a Wes Anderson character
It’s about time to get into that Wes Anderson mood again.
Tonight is Stardust’s Wes Anderson costume party (Ashley has some suggestions if you can’t make up your mind or can’t fit into your tube sock) and the new film The Grand Budapest Hotel
opens on Friday in Orlando. is now playing in select cities.
The film seamlessly mixes the deadpan on-the-run wit of Bottle Rocket with the askew men-on-a-mission charm of The Life Aquatic and comes out with something wholly original, though reassuringly familiar.
One of the recurring items of precious importance to the liberally perfumed concierge, Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes), and his lobby boy, Zero (Tony Revolori), is a pastry from the Zubrowkian (?) patisserie, the famous Mendel’s.
The shops’ pink, bow-wrapped contraption of a box is ubiquitous throughout the film; the pastry inside — the decadent courtesan au chocolat — is made by Agatha (Saoirse Ronan), who reluctantly sets aside her baker’s calling and joins Gustave and Zero in their schemes and woes.
