A SXSW Primer + Any Orlando bands headed to SXSW?
I’m excited to announce that Orlando Weekly will be going to South By Southwest this year to see what bands there are to be discovered, and equally as cool, to see how Orlando bands make their mark with official or unofficial showcases. SXSW takes place March 7-16, 2014, and I’ve already noted that Orlando Street Smart rapper Wes Fif and DeLand rising stars Roadkill Ghost Choir will be representing, as well as Jacksonville’s Sunbears! and Orlando ex-pats Alligator Indian, but I’m curious who else is headed that direction to take advantage of the massive gathering of music lovers?
If you’re planning to bring your band to Austin for SXSW, please comment below or email firstname.lastname@example.org. But if you’re planning on simply attending SXSW, I am insanely jealous, because after poring over the entire lineup, there’s the dependably fantastic mix of old talents (Bob Mould) and up-and-comers (Mutual Benefit). I also noted a number of artists who we heavily discussed over the course of last year, many of which we actually got to see. Here are some links for those priming for SXSW:
Atlanta’s Whores are one of the most underrated noise-rock bands around today (There are actually a considerable number of Atlanta and Athens bands going to SXSW this year.)
That should be enough to get you started, and keep an eye out on March 21 for another showcasing artist at SXSW who will roll through town shortly after the conference/festival ends: The Casket Girls play Will’s Pub on March 21, and we’ll feature an interview with the band on the issue out March 19. Listen to their freak-pop 2012 release Sleepwalking now:
