Local artist illustrates cover for Black Sabbath Record Store Day UK release

Earlier this year, I highlighted four great illustrated show posters, and that was how I first encountered the work of local artist Brandon Geurts, but now his work – dark pieces that illustrate demons and female figures with a dramatic delicacy – has caught the eye of heavy rockers Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath will do a limited pressing of 100 7-inches featuring the song “Age of Reason” off 2013 release 13 for Record Store Day UK. Each 7-inch will have a different cover, making each one completely unique, and one of these 100 covers will feature one of Geurts’ illustrations. We can’t show you the official art until it releases, but they have all 100 drawings here and here’s Geurts’ self-portrait, below. See if you can pick out which cover is his.

If you like Geurts’ drawings, you should probably follow him on Instagram, @brandon_geurts, or pick up the latest issue of Is It Over Yet?, which I’m told will stop printing soon and go to an online-only format, with printing available upon request. Geurts also just debuted his own zine, Vespertines, but I’m pretty sure that sold out instantly. Those interested in learning more about local zine culture might enjoy this gallery from the first Orlando Zine Fest:
