Sinister, spacey art unveiled for Golden Pelicans’ new 12-inch

Some bands shy away from tying their name imagery into their art, but Orlando’s Golden Pelicans doesn’t really care about dorky etiquette, and thank goodness, because the album art for their new self-titled 12-inch embraces the predatory water bird, and it is glorious:

It’s illustrated by Chicago artist/musician Mac Blackout (whose work more frequently graces the album covers of Hozac Records artists and he also does these insane, monstrously great customizations of old stereos) and its sinister space vibe pairs well with the Pelicans’ growling gutter punk. The album releases Aug. 19 on Total Punk, but folks at their Atlanta show tonight at the Earl can pick it up, and then Orlando gets next dibs when Golden Pelicans open for Off! at Backbooth Aug. 13. (FYI: We’ll have an interview with Off! singer Keith Morris about that show in next week’s issue.)
