5 songs to get you through today

April 14, 2014
By

Nothing is beautiful and everything hurts. It’s Monday, but, hey, there is a lot to look forward to this week (like Kendrick Lamar, Harrypalooza, Bad Veins, Record Store Day and more). Here are some songs to help heal your weekend hippy heart.

1. Cloud Nothings “Psychic Trauma”

Get over your traumatic weekend with the new Cloud Nothings, whether it was full of alcohol, romance or option C: all of the above.
Not-so-subtle reminder: Cloud Nothings will be here next week at the Social (April 21), and we’re running an interview with them you can read Wednesday.

2. Mr. 3 “Kitty Racial Sensitivity Training (feat. Lrrn)”

Still re-evaluating your life after seeing Kitty Pryde at Backbooth Friday night?
It’s time to bounce back quickly, because Mr. 3 (aka Black Liz Lemon) is hosting Harrypalooza vol.4 this Thursday at the same place, and it’s probably going to be the most ratchet event in the history of Backbooth. You’ve been warned. (RSVP)
3. Butterqueen “Dinner at Wally’s”

Mondays are rough. You’ll probably hit Wally’s after work; while you’re at it, pop over to Peacock where Butterqueen is playing a free show tonight at 9 p.m. with Bellows and some people from Brooklyn (RSVP)

4. Case Work “Dancing Shadows”

While you’re daydreaming at your desk today, you might as well use this track as your spiritual guide. Friday may feel like miles away, but rest assured we’re close to seeing Case Work playing with Me Chinese, Bad Veins and Pathos, Pathos at Will’s Pub, and you can take solace in that. (RSVP)

5. Roadkill Ghost Choir “Beggar’s Guild”

I’m just going to put some of the lyrics here for you, instead of a cute quip as to why this song is relevant to Monday.
“So I sleep all day and I dream all night/with the bottle in my hand, I take the devil’s side./I smile real big just to keep it hid/oh, the truth about my lack of will.”

Also Roadkill Ghost Choir will be headlining Bao’s FMF show April 25 (next Friday, we’ll have a full feature on the band in our issue due out April 23) at the Social, and missing that would be worse than missing the toilet next time you vomit. Sleep on that. (RSVP)
