PBS films a segment of ‘Tout Your Town’ at Wally’s on Mills
Forgive me, friends, if I go on a little in this post. You see, I’ve been at Wally’s this evening already, which is nothing, really, considering it’s 7 p.m., and some folks have been there since this morning. (Wally’s happy hour goes from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., so top that.)
Anyway, the purpose of my visit was to see what on Earth had compelled PBS to visit the source of Mills 50’s strongest pour after bartender Lois Woods posted on Facebook that there’d be a special filming there this evening. It turns out that PBS has a new reality show called Tout Your Town, the mission of which is to find under-the-radar haunts in the U.S. to share real insights into cities that you just won’t find in guidebooks. That’s real sweet of them, but clearly they missed the New York Times post that already “discovered” Wally’s almost three years ago. However! Not to hate on PBS, who deserves complete props, because rather than settling for a one-liner, I watched TV show host Lindsay Ferrier interview the staff and go into much more detail about what makes Wally’s so loved in Orlando. (HINT: Their happy hour is 12 hours long.)
I tried to track down the show’s air times online, but it looks like it’s exclusive to local subsidiaries of PBS, and my Brighthouse DVR isn’t revealing anything yet, so I’d either check back on the PBS site (where they only have one full episode posted so far, featuring Nashville) or check back here, and I will get back to you the second I find out, scout’s honor.
