Sneaky! Cat Power quietly books a date near Orlando

Ponte Vedra Concert Hall got my attention earlier this year when Neko Case announced the venue as a stop (Oct. 25) on her latest tour. What is this place? I asked myself, while immediately writing the venue to see what I could find out. Next week, I’ll take the 2-hour journey there to see for myself what charmed Case’s folks into selecting this seemingly small-fry city, rather than booking her again at the Plaza Live here in Orlando, where I saw Case last and where I hope someday to see her again. But, I digress, because just this week, I was stunned to learn from a friend that Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has also booked Cat Power on Nov. 8. I didn’t even know Cat Power was touring, but for fans who might’ve ordinarily made that jaunt to Georgia, at $35 for the Ponte Vedra show, it’s a double treat to save gas money and time, while also checking out a venue we’ve probably all been overlooking. (Or maybe it’s just me?)

In this month’s edition of Feedback (in the music section, Oct. 30), I’ll let you know how my trip went, so you can judge whether you’ll be making that drive to Ponte Vedra Beach, which is squarely placed on Florida’s east coast between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, for Cat Power or any other surprising show that crops up there.

I don’t get it. Why are there HARDLY ANY banner headlines on the Local
internet regarding UCF’s win over Louisville? Local sports must be unaware
that the rest of the world, not to mention the rest of the state, needs to know
    about such celebrated events!
