Ralphfest 3 expanded into 2-day festival with Sebadoh as the headliner
Ralphfest, an assuredly memorable, locally-focused music festival that highlights our area’s most talented musicians pays tribute to Ralph Ameduri, who acted as an important cog in our music community, rotating through a number of beloved local acts (including the Legendary JCs, My Friend Steve, the New Lows and many, many more) before he was slain after a show. As the suspect in this case is put to trial (Jan. 28), it’s stirring up not just powerful emotions for many who still miss the multi-instrumental man but also a lot of action, in the form of Ralphfest 3. According to organizer Jeff Sweat, Ralphfest 3 was intentionally postponed in order to expand the event and raise awareness for the trial proceedings, and this includes transforming the one-night event into a two-day celebration that touches both the downtown venues and those in Mills 50.
The first day of Ralphfest 3 is Friday, Feb. 7, and includes a stellar line-up of Orlando bands at Will’s Pub and Lil Indies, as well as an art show featuring Ameduri’s works as a photographer and artist. This is followed up on Saturday, Feb. 8 with shows at the Beacham and the Social (as well as additional ancillary shows at other downtown bars), culminating in a specially selected headliner at the Beacham, a national band whose music Ameduri respected, Sebadoh. You’ll have to keep an eye on ralphameduri.com for the full line-up, which will hopefully be posted soon.
We’re planning a full feature to get you up to speed with what is going on with the trial, as well as a discussion of Ameduri’s impact on the local musicians who annually come together to celebrate his memory in what’s become a uniquely and deeply Orlando event.
