The scene outside the Winter Park library

November 3, 2012

Voters who had been waiting outside the Winter Park Public Library for hours to cast their vote on this, the last day if early voting in Florida before the Nov. 6 election, are angry and frustrated.

Police have detonated two suspicious devices outside the library and have shut down voting at the location. Some voters have not been able to leave, and they say that poll workers are not giving them any information.

One girl at the library says this was to be her first voting experience – and that it will likely be her last.

Well, that’s one way to suppress a vote. More details later, as we get them.

HT to Jessica Bryce Young, who took the pic and sent this detailed info.

Update: Billy Manes spoke with Bill Cowles, supervisor of elections for Orange County today. Voters can walk in to the supervisors office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday) or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday to cast an absentee ballot. If you weren’t able to vote at Winter Park today, you can still cast an absentee ballot.

Update 2: from Jim Crescitelli: voters are once again being lined up to vote at the library. Those who were in line waiting before the first device was discovered are being given pieces of paper with “voter” written on them to act as tickets to get an early spot on the new line.

Update 3: This morning, the Sentinel is reporting that Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles has extended early voting at the Winter Park Library this afternoon from 1-5 p.m. However, the Republican Party is trying to appeal the ruling, so all ballots cast there will be provisional.
