Orlando to hold a party to celebrate Florida Citrus Bowl demolition … and you’re invited!

Farewell, Citrus Bowl. We'd say we hardly knew ye, but that would be a lie.

Farewell, Citrus Bowl. We’d say we hardly knew ye, but that would be a lie.

At 10 a.m. on  Wednesday, Jan. 29,  the city of Orlando is holding a party, of sorts, to celebrate the pending demolition of the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. Technically, though, it’s not really a demolition – there won’t even be an explosion! – it’s more of a teardown of the lower tiers of the stadium, which will be conducted with bulldozers so the existing upper tiers can be salvaged. The rest of the Orlando landmark will be history.

While we’re sad to see it go, we’re eager to see what kind of phoenix arises from those ashes. They’re promising us a brand new bowl, an expanded main concourse, new seating, suites, LED video displays and a 10,000 square foot party deck.

If you’d like to be there to see it all go down (literally), the event is open to the public, click here to RSVP.

Be forewarned: This isn’t going to be just any party, so wear your long pants and closed-toe shoes.

And just to get you in the mood, here’s a video of that time they imploded the Amway Arena:

And a blog with links to a whole other batch of videos documenting the day that ugly, hulking mess went down.

Also, remember that one time at the Citrus Bowl when they …

… Held the two-day Orlando Calling music festival there?

… Held the Color Run there?

… Used to hold Orlando City Soccer Club games and tailgating parties there?
