Everybody’s mean boyfriend Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford wants to hear from you!
Because politicians so frequently like to hold up the illusion that they really do care what you think – except when it comes to everything like, say, expanding Medicaid to cover the impoverished and allowing basic human decency for minorities, gays and women in the Sunshine State – today, you too can cling to the illusion that your voice WILL be heard. Via our friends at Equality Florida, we have learned that Weatherford has taken to the interwebs to crowdsource legislative policy, mostly in a multiple choice format that allows for no gray area. SHOULD WE DO THIS OBAMACARE? YES OR NO!? Weatherford even includes a picture of himself with some constituents, who are likely septuagenarians and therefore the only voices he’s willing to hear. WANNA SEE IT? GOD, FLORIDA LOOKS LIKE SUCH A SWEET PLACE. Anyway, EQFL is hoping that you’ll use that big text box at the bottom to mention something about equal rights, because that’s what they exist to do. To wit:
“I think we need to pass the Florida Competitive Workforce Act, a bill that would amend current state law to prohibit discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. Employees should be judged on their merits and the work they do, not who they are.Passing the Competitive Workforce Act will make Florida more competitive both nationally and internationally in recruiting and retaining top talent, and helping to get businesses to locate here.”
