Orlando City Soccer heads to USL pro championship

September 3, 2013

SEL-orlando-city-soccer-300x200For the second time in three years, the Orlando City Lions will compete in the USL pro soccer championship. It was during their inaugural season back in 2011 when the Lions clinched champ status by winning a bout against the Harrisburg City Islanders.

This time around the Lions, a No. 2 seed coming into the finals, take on the Charlotte Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

You might have read our coverage earlier this year on Orlando City Soccer’s “scheme to make Orlando soccer capital of the Southeast,” and the developments of a potential soccer-specific stadium, which would be built in Orlando with hopes it would bring along a Major League Soccer bid.

Whether they get a stadium or not, one thing’s for sure: There’s a ton of recent buzz going around about the Lions, and rightfully so, as the team’s success speaks for itself. A championship win this weekend will no doubt kick the entire stadium discussion into high gear.
