Just like a pill: The fight against abortion in Florida is alive and well, and here’s one fun way to fight back

September 19, 2013
By

ISWPPB2We were a little taken aback this morning as we perused the depression headline-wires to figure out how to feel today. Sure, the right-wing extremists are sort of being marginalized (even while spending heaps of money to appear relevant), and yes, the Obamacare exchanges are opening soon (despite a hellish fight from states like Florida), but what really got us was this: There’s some new wind in the sails last year’s failed Unborn Victims of Violence Act. As they often do, the pro-life brigade have seized on one story to illustrate one point as a means of basically redefining all fetuses to be human beings, thereby ending abortion outright! Or at least getting it to the Supreme Court so Alito can! The latest case is that of Remee Jo Lee, who was surreptitiously fed a morning-after pill (disguised as an antibiotic) by her sociopathic boyfriend, John Andrew Welden. We can all agree that this is a pretty egregious and horrible thing, and Welden himself has plead guilty in a federal court to tampering charges that will likely land him in prison for 13 years. Also, we’ve all seen Arsenic and Old Lace before, for what it’s worth.

But that punishment isn’t enough for State Rep. Larry Ahern, R-Seminole, and state Sen. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland. The duo took to press conferencing the sordid affair on Sept. 18 as a means of reintroducing their bill which seeks to redefine the viability of a fetus for the purposes of state prosecution. As the Tampa Tribune reports, the Republicans are pretending this isn’t about outlawing abortion at all, but then turning around and saying things like this:

Stargell said she was “very hopeful” the bill will pass in the next session of the Legislature, especially now that Lee has given it her support.

“This is not an abortion debate,” Stargell said. “This is about a baby in her womb that was taken from her.”

Stargell said the bill would make any unborn child, no matter how far along, viable, “so the courts don’t have to determine the viability factor.”

Viability describes whether an unborn child can survive outside the womb.

It isn’t likely that Lee’s six-to-seven-week-old fetus could have survived outside, though, is it? Anyway, it’s not unusual for conservatives to pull these #FloridaMan sob stories out in the abortion debate, so we’re not super concerned. We are, however, vigilant, as is Planned Parenthood. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is hosting a quiz called Women are Watching, and the more correct answers you get, the more money automatically goes to the group so that they can fight such glorious invaders of the political lexicon as “vaginal ultrasounds.” According to the site:

Every correct answer will generate a 10-cent donation to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (up to $25,000) to help us defeat the candidates who attack women’s health — and believe us, they’re very real — and work throughout this year and beyond to protect and promote women’s health.

Happy Clicking!

41% of NYC pregnancies end in abortion

One very shocking study found that 86 percent of all abortions are done for the sake of convenience.

Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger once said the following….

“The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”

Planned Parenthood specifically targets the poor. A staggering 72 percent of Planned Parenthood’s “customers” have incomes that are either equal to or beneath the federal poverty level.

even if one is pro-choice that doesn’t equate to pro-murder. abortion is a sad, heartbreaking and ultimately traumatic procedure. the vehemence and anger of pro-choice women is a result of what a psychologist might call re-directed guilt. as long as the sun shines on this planet killing the new life inside of a woman will be wrong-BY UNIVERSAL STANDARDS. so it isn’t an adult. it isn’t as complicated as a rocket ship. but my god it’s not a science experiment. it’s the beginning of consciousness. WE ARE MORE THAN MONKEYS! WE ARE ENLIGHTENED LIFE! RESPECT LIFE AND THE COSMIC RULES! do you imagine to be greater than the universal mind? that which scatters the seeds of consciousness across the cosmos in hopes of ultimate revelation? or do you paint your nails fire-engine red and sip cocktails with blockheads who are really only interested in hedge funds and lobster….

No, I can’t afford much more than motherfucking goddamn ramen to eat…you would have preferred that I had died from another fucking dissection than end a pregnancy so I would not die from being the victim of a violent crime. You would expect me to ignore explicitly clear medical advice and carry a rape pregnancy until I died, for religious bullshit you can’t even begin to live up to…you would rather I die, and that my elderly parents bury me and my dead preterm fetus. Your goddamn Repig House of Representatives just voted to cut my throat by their SNAP cuts. Your Repigs are trying to force me off Medicare Extra Help, and I need $400 worth of meds/ month to stay alive. Life, my fucking ass! burn in the hell you are so eager to consign others to, and get the fuck off this website! You will more than likely succeed in killing me but you better realize now that I will not die quietly! If anyone is interested in hedge funds and lobster it is the Christian Reconstructionist-Dominionist dominated GOP! My father served on the battlefield for his country and had poisonous defoliant dumped all over him, and not only do you constantly try to screw him out of everything his nation should be giving him, but you are trying actively and with extreme prejudice to KILL his oldest child,,,,me…take your so-called “pro-life” bullshit jesus crap elsewhere….you have taken a former on-fire-for-jebus-godbot and turned her into a gun-shy agnostic/atheist…good job

i’m not running for president honey. i say what i want. nothing about this country is mine. and i see neither is it yours. rape cases do not constitute the majority of abortions and i find it odd you choose to ignore the bulk of the rationale behind them, i.e. convenience. there is always a worst case scenario and you happen to be it. supposedly…
these comments have been approved by your elderly cunt of a mother. :) no one said i was perfect sweetheart.
your line about killing with extreme prejudice is a good one from ‘apocalypse now’. vietnam was a motherfucker apparently. and all i got was afghanistan. dammit.
p.s. i don’t think you’re real but that could just be the cynical generation speaking.
long live, beauty, and raise hell.

As a onetime pro-lifer and bitter detractor of planned parenthood, I’m beginning to see some good sense liberals are capable of expressing in order to shed some light between the lines of rational subtlety. …After all, dropping hints and innuendo is what they do best isn’t it, especially when banging it into somebody’s thick skull to underwrite somebody else’s thankless task to shove and jiggle a sharp surgical trocar through somebody else’s cranial soft spot hiding up some urban project teenage chick’s cootchie.

Yes, I’d have to agree with billymanes that liberals’ word games are kind of fun ways to fight back!

They (liberals) aren’t talking about responsible folks like most in this forum, imbued with a sense of fiscal productivity; inventivenes; compassion; empathy, and moderation in an overall framework of decency. You just can’t find that kind of young adolescence becoming doctors and nurses after twenty years of scurrying like human rats and cockroaches in the blind alleys, between garbage cans, dumpsters, and darkened hallways of urban projects bearing the names of avenues and parking lots, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

So, abortion and planned parenthood? …Yup billymanes, if you say so I’m all for it!

    Postscript:
Don’t be in a such a big hurry to go screaming from the room. Before long liberal hypocrisy like billymanes’s will be saying he knew all along those crazy white supremists might come in handy someday.

Eugenics (/juːˈdʒɛnɪks/; from Greek eu, meaning “good/well”, and -genēs, meaning “born”) is the theory and practice of improving the genetic quality of the human population.[2][3] It is a social philosophy advocating the improvement of human genetic traits through the promotion of higher reproduction of people with desired traits (positive eugenics), and reduced reproduction of people with less desired or undesired traits (negative eugenics).[4]

indeed sir. abortion is seen by so many as a righteous cause of freedom although its primary function is to rid the population of so-called undesirables. fear of a black planet.
