There’s an app for that: BuzzMe allows users to buy drinks via smartphone

buzzmeFinally! Someone has invented a way for you to share a meal with your in-laws without actually having to interact with your in-laws! And don’t worry about ever showing up to your daughter’s birthday dinners again, because now you can send her a cake from the comfort of your home office. (See, honey? Daddy loves you!) Social media has taken it to a whole new level – and by “it”, I mean never having to look someone directly in the eyes for as long as you should live.

Now you can purchase menu items for friends, family, and colleagues – anyone you don’t really want to associate with in-person – from your smartphone, using the new BuzzMe app. Tampa-based entrepreneurs and developers of BuzzMe, Philippe Theodore and Nathaniel Waring, are looking to increase social media’s scope and get local businesses in on the action. “What better way to expand your customer base than to make our menu available to people who aren’t even on your premises?” says Waring.

To use the app, which is already available on iTunes and in the Android Market, simply download it for free and sign in using your Facebook information. Once you’ve created an account, you’re ready to find your friends – assuming they have BuzzMe accounts and they’ve “checked in” to a registered BuzzMe location – and “Buzz” them a glass of wine or a hot fudge sundae. You can even send a message to accompany your edible gift, because nothing says “Good job on your promotion!” like a slab of onion rings and an ice-cold Bud Light Lime, without actually having to say it or be present to say it.

Almost instantaneously, your friend receives your gift via phone notification, after you’ve entered your password to securely charge your credit card across town. And just like that, you’ve further distanced yourself from any and all human contact, and you spent money doing it! The night you spent at home in your snuggie with your pet ferret really made you feel alive! But at least your grandmother knows you want her to “Get well soon,” from the four tequila shots you sent her.

At the moment, most of the participating restaurants/eateries are located in the Tampa Bay area, but developers hope to branch out into surrounding areas. This could mean that soon our phones will be buying us rounds at Redlight Redlight! But until that day comes, we’ll actually have to spend time with people if we want to see them get embarrassingly drunk in public.

And not only do customers win with this new app, but businesses get a pretty sweet deal as well. “We think BuzzMe can be a great tool for both customers and businesses,” says Marketing Manager of Datz gastropub in Tampa, Kate Perry. “It has the potential to bring more people into our restaurant.”

Because, after all, the most meaningful things in life come from money, not relationships. Cheers to that!
