Photo Gallery: Red Bull Training Grounds Videogame Tournament at Full Sail
Attention all aspiring cyber-atheletes and competitive gaming fans: the Red Bull Training Grounds has taken over Full Sail University this weekend, and you can watch some of the world's best video gamers engage in virtual combat over $10,000 in prizes.
Eight invited professional Starcraft II players representing North America, Germany, Norway and South Korea, are competing round-robin style, with the top two advancing to Sunday's finals. The players have been broken into two groups, for round robin play on Day 1 and Day 2, the top two players from each group advancing to the finals on Day 3.
I stopped by today to watch Dario “TLO” Wünsch take on Ryoo “SeleCT” Kyung Hyun and Chris “HuK” Loranger defeat Chris “Illusion” Lee in Starcraft II. As someone who hasn't played an RTS (real-time strategy game) since the original Starcraft in the late 1990s, I was bewildered by the rapid-fire patter from live color commentators Sean ‘Day' Plott and Marcus ‘djWHEAT’ Graham, but the exploding Zergs sure look pretty on Full Sail's super-sized projection screens.
The three day even runs today (7/26/2013) through Sunday 7/28, and is free and open to the public. The doors to the Full Sail Live venue on the Winter Park campus (141 University Park Drive) open at 1pm each day, and the tournament runs from 2pm to 8pm daily. If you can't attend in person, you can watch the livestream at www.redbull.com/esports. For more info, see http://www.redbull.com/eSports.
