WINTER PARK, FL “It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that our good friend Rick Lang passed away on July 9 at the Winter Park Towers Health Center. His passing came much faster than anyone had anticipated. As a tribute for our friend and colleague, we have organized a memorial celebration for Rick at the Crealdé main campus on Saturday, July 27 from 5 to 7 pm and everyone is invited to attend. It will be an opportunity for all of the many people who have loved him to come together, share our feelings and celebrate his life and his many contributions to our community. Let’s rejoice in our countless wonderful memories about Rick and know that heaven just gained a wonderful photographer, teacher and friend.”
In memory and as a tribute to his legacy as a photographer and educator, Crealdé has established the Rick Lang Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation of Central Florida. Annually, the interest from this fund will sponsor worthy photography students with financial needs of any age at Crealdé. Contributions are tax deductible and can be brought to the Memorial service or mailed to the office. Please indicate the Rick Lang Scholarship Fund on your check, and make it out to Crealdé School of Art.
Rick joined the Crealdé faculty in 1989 and in 1995 was appointed to Director of the popular Photography Department. He supervised a faculty of five instructors and managed a department with over 1,500 students per year. In his capacities as an educator and curator of many of Crealdé’s photography exhibitions, he has added tremendously to the growth of the organization over the last two decades. As an exhibiting documentary photographer, he had shown his black and white photographs at museums and galleries throughout the Southeastern United States. His carefully crafted images showed a unique and very romantic view of the Southern landscape in transition in the late 20th and early 21st century. His work is currently on display in an exhibition at the Southeastern Museum of Photography in Daytona Beach and is slated for display at the Seminole State College Gallery this fall. Rick was a tireless advocate of the photographic medium and was often asked to judge exhibitions and lecture to community and student groups all over Florida.
