Keeping up with the Joneses in Orlando: 1940s comic depicts the City Beautiful

“Orlando is like a fairyland,” Mrs. Jones gushes in this vapid 1940s comic that seeks to lure families like the Joneses to Orlando and issues a steady stream of compliments (or rather, positively framed declarations) directed at our town and even finds the best virtue in neighboring areas like Daytona or Silver Springs to be their proximity to Orlando. A series of seven different panels were posted to Historic Orlando that pan through our city, visiting Lake Eola, Rollins College, Lake Apopka and, of course (?), the Chamber of Commerce (which, I’ve a notion, was responsible for these advertisements in the first place).

Enjoy the comics below and if you’re fiending for more old Orlando, check out Historic Orlando II, the retention pond for the spill-over from the original Facebook group, which already met Facebook’s maximum allowance for photos stored in a group. (Seriously. I didn’t even know Facebook had a maximum.)
