The drive-in movie turns 80 and Macy’s keeps you sane
Parents, it’s that time of year again. School is out. It’s barely three weeks into summer, and let’s face it: the kids are already bored as hell, and being home is starting to feel like an episode of Real Housewives mixed with Amanda Bynes’ life – yes, you need to get yourselves and your kids out of the house before you all start wearing cheap hooker wigs and throwing place settings at each other. The good people down at the Florida Mall Macy’s know this.
The drive-in movie turns 80 years old this summer, and Macy’s is here to help us celebrate. Show up at the department store’s parking lot at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 for an evening of family-friendly fun, including activities and treats of the carnival variety. None other than our favorite band of blue woodland creatures, The Smurfs, grace the silver screen, sure to delight parents and kids – mostly kids – alike.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! Macy’s treats viewers to a sneak preview of The Smurfs 2, out this summer, with all the cinematic excellence of its predecessor. To top off the fun, shoppers who spend at least $40 at the retail location earlier that day, receive a free Macy’s Drive-In lawn chair while supplies last! Christmas came early this year, people.
And if nothing else, the whole drive-in movie experience, most likely a foreign concept to the same age group interested in the contemporary Smurfs franchise, serves as a good history lesson and maybe and introduction to family planning. (“The drive-in was the cool place to hang out when Nanny and Poppy were young. In fact, your mom was conceived at a drive-in.” “Mommy, what’s ‘conceived’…?”)
