Long-time local favorite the Rules debuts new album at Peacock
Friday, June 21 – The Rules
with Happy Valley
The Peacock Room
1321 N. Mills Ave.
While Moon Jelly’s record release around the corner at Stardust is a debut, the other notable local album release party on Friday celebrates a long-running Orlando scene fixture. For such accomplished musicians, the Rules pack their groove jams with an enormous sense of playfulness and humor, romancing the cheese with studied and professional technique. And they’ve been doing it since 2001. This third album, 24/Several, is a body-moving alloy of android funk, smooth rock, pristine post-rock and very ’80s synths. In aggregate, it plays a little like Chromeo’s more organic, band-geek brother. The album art was done by local artist Rick Jones, and he sells limited signed and numbered prints at the show. And the always-unpredictable Happy Valley opens. – Bao Le-Huu
