Score equipment for your game room at auction this weekend
Ordinarily, I take great pains to keep up with what’s happening at Central Florida Fairgrounds because they have these quietly great events that occur regularly, with everything from Mini Maker Faire to Native American cultural festivals to used record sales, it really goes on to amass into an excess of excellence that I feel goes much unnoticed. But, I have been slacking in my fairgrounds monitoring, because there’s an event this Saturday, June 29 that I think a variety of video game enthusiasts would enjoy a heads up on (JK, I’m sure you already know): Major Arcade Consignment Auction.
It begins at 10:15 a.m., so you have plenty of time to grab a McMuffin on the way, and the organizers at SuperAuctions.com claim they’ll have more than 250 arcade games, pinball machines, tabletop games and other amazing game room equipment, going for the rate of demand. That means if you’re a frequenter of BART or Spacebar, you could take a page from their party planner and host that barfly action at home, likely at a more sensible price than you’d find similar consoles or equipment on online auction sites like Ebay, and with a little more certainty of what you’re buying than if you came across a temptingly low-priced item on Craigslist.
It’s a cash-only event taking place in Exhibit Hall A, which for n00bs is that building at the end of the fairgrounds driveway. It’s hard to miss. They’ll be auctioning items until 9 p.m., so for lurkers, that means you have all day to get over there to peruse the makeshift game room graveyard. Here’s a tip, though, for serious auctiongoers: In tiny print, they advertise a preview taking place Saturday morning from 8-10 a.m., so it may be in your best interest to show up early and scout out items you may have on your wishlist. Best luck keeping up with the auctioneer!
