Urban ReThink hosts screening of Miss Representation documentary
Wednesday, May 22 – Miss Representation
625 E. Central Blvd.
If you’ve seen the trailer for Miss Representation, there are a few facts – like the disparity between the amount of women in Congress as compared to the number of women in the U.S. overall – that may come as a bit of a shock. In fact, plan on attending the film’s screening and discussion (brought to you by FemCity Orlando and Women in Film and Television Florida and moderated by Colleen Burns of Yelp Orlando) at Urban ReThink, and be prepared to find out some shocking stuff. However, be ready for this powerful film, winner of Outstanding Documentary at the 2012 Gracie Allen Awards, to also surprise, inspire and educate about the misrepresentations of women in the media and how they affect the role of women in positions of power and influence. The best part? For $10 ($5 for FemCity Orlando and WIFT-FL members), it’s the least expensive, most interesting women’s studies class you’ll attend – no degree necessary. Seating is limited, so visit the WIFT-FL website or the Facebook event page to buy tickets online. – Katherine Ramirez Massey
