Continuing its ongoing role as chief collaborator – and, often, savior – of Orlando’s fractious-but-still-fantastic world of local, large-scale theatrical productions, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra this time weds and weaves the whims of William Shakespeare with the dalliances of Felix Mendelssohn, inviting the Orlando Shakespeare Theater along for the comedic romance. On the surface, it’s the story of four lovers cavorting into a faerie forest where mischief ensues, complicated by scene-stealers with names like Puck and Bottom. But, in truth, like most of Shakespeare’s works, Dream is an aesthetic ride of poetry and emotion, here enhanced by Mendelssohn’s renowned score (birthplace of none other than the “Wedding March”). It should come off fantastic (the performance is sold out, after all), but just in case: “If we shadows have offended, think but this and all is mended,” Puck says in his most famous monologue. “That you have but slumber’d here, while these visions did appear.” It was all a dream. – Billy Manes
