SNL’s Seth Meyers hits UCF Arena
Monday, March 25 – Seth Meyers
with Colin Jost
50 N. Gemini Blvd.
For nearly 12 years, deadpan dreamboat Seth Meyers has been winking and nudging his nerdy observational comedy upwards to universal acclaim on Saturday Night Live. These days, as the lead writer and Weekend Update solo anchor (no mean feat, considering the bratty sibling chemistry he used to share with former co-anchor Amy Poehler), Meyers is basically the deciding factor on whether the largely improvisational weekly crapshoot is going to be a hit or not. That Sarah Palin thing that sent Tina Fey into the water-cooler stratosphere? Meyers wrote it. His stand-up routines tend to mirror the percussive one-lined zingers that make Update such a sociopolitical lynchpin. And the jokes, as on SNL, are short enough that Meyers’ signature self-deprecation can fill the spaces in between the oft-hilarious currency of affairs. Now, if only Bill Hader’s Stefon character could be part of the traveling act, we’d be in heaven. Or, whatever the “hottest new club” is. – Billy Manes
