Pooches compete in the doggie dash, musical chairs and more at Doglympics
Saturday, Feb. 23 – Doglympics
9 a.m.-4 p.m.
3702 Avalon Park East Blvd.
Skip going to the dog park this Saturday – replace your dog’s mindless excitement with a more constructive activity, like lure coursing or relay racing or obedience baseball. And while you’re at it, don’t just broaden your dog’s horizons. You, too, should work to earn your kibbles and ice cream: Attend a seminar on doggie yoga or canine scent work or border-protection dogs. Then reward yourself with a treat from the Pastrami Project food truck (reward your dog with something more species-appropriate – pastrami isn’t good for dogs). This weekend, Orlando’s University of Doglando brings all of this good stuff (and more) to Avalon Park for the fifth annual Doglympics, a celebration of all things canine. It’s a chance to expand your knowledge about your dog and your dog’s repertoire of potential skills. Don’t have a dog? There’ll be plenty of rescues on hand who’ll have adoptables looking for someone just like you – a person who geeks out on dogs enough to attend a Doglympics event – to take them home. – Erin Sullivan
