Pooches compete in the doggie dash, musical chairs and more at Doglympics

Skip going to the dog park this Saturday â€“ replace your dogâ€™s mindless excitement with a more constructive activity, like lure coursing or relay racing or obedience baseball. And while youâ€™re at it, donâ€™t just broaden your dogâ€™s horizons. You, too, should work to earn your kibbles and ice cream: Attend a seminar on doggie yoga or canine scent work or border-protection dogs. Then reward yourself with a treat from the Pastrami Project food truck (reward your dog with something more species-appropriate â€“Â pastrami isnâ€™t good for dogs). This weekend, Orlandoâ€™s University of Doglando brings all of this good stuff (and more) to Avalon Park for the fifth annual Doglympics, a celebration of all things canine. Itâ€™s a chance to expand your knowledge about your dog and your dogâ€™s repertoire of potential skills. Donâ€™t have a dog? Thereâ€™ll be plenty of rescues on hand whoâ€™ll have adoptables looking for someone just like you â€“ a person who geeks out on dogs enough to attend a Doglympics event â€“Â to take them home.Â â€“ Erin Sullivan
