An incredible Beast of a benefit show
Orlando drivers, it’s no secret that you need to get your shit together and learn to share the road with cyclists. Case in point: Earlier this month, local musician Karyna Santana (Emma X) was critically injured when she collided with a Jeep on her bike ride home from work. To help with her medical costs, several outstanding creatives in our area are gearing up for a big event this Saturday at Austin’s Coffee: Beast Fest. This beasty affair will last a full 24 hours, from 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 until 10 a.m. Sunday and include a wide range of spirited activities and performances including:
- DIY Bicycle Awareness T-shirt stenciling
- Kickass raffle
- CONTESTS! (WHAT. I’M COMPETITIVE.)
- Poetry vending machine
- artist showcases
Live performances from some of the area’s best include shows by Zap Dragon and the Attack, the Plush Monsters, Afeefa & the Boy, Lauren Carder and others throughout the span of the event. This is an all-day party, but it also includes an awareness edge, including distributing bicycle safety information as well as bike freebies, meaning you could walk out better informed, fully stocked and thoroughly entertained. All proceeds will go directly toward Santana’s recovery process, so if you splurge a little that night, know it’s for a sincerely good cause. Plus, Austin’s has some of the best coffee in town, making a 24-hour party feasible for all the beasts in attendance. And if you can’t make it, you can still contribute to the cause at Indiegogo.
