Crealdé hosts annual Night of Fire open house

January 4, 2013

Saturday, Jan. 5 – Night of Fire
5-8 p.m.
Crealdé School of Art
600 St. Andrews Blvd., Winter Park

On a cold, wintry January night, there’s nothing quite like nuzzling up next to a blazing hot hunk of molten bronze. Wait, what? While you might not sing “Kumbaya” around the campfire, things are really heating up at Crealdé School of Art this weekend for the annual Night of Fire open house. We’re talking about live bronze sculpture pours by instructor David Cumbie, ceramic kiln firings, interactive photography and drawing workshops, and handmade clay lantern displays. Not only is it a chance for interested art students to tour Crealdé’s campus and learn about classes and scholarships, but also the kiddies can revel in hands-on art projects and storytelling while the adults sip hot mulled wine and hear live folk music by the G.T. Springer Band. Can’t handle the heat? Head inside to the gallery reception for the annual Director’s Choice III exhibition, which encapsulates painting, drawing, photography, stained glass and ceramic works by eight of Crealdé’s faculty members. – Aimee Vitek
