Tea and crumpets traded for beer and Jell-O shots at Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
She’s reigned in England for 60 years now, so it’s only appropriate for Queen Elizabeth II to travel throughout the United Kingdom in celebration of herself, hosting derbies, luncheons, boat pageants and concerts.
Or as she previously put it, when commenting on the 2012 Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, “I hope we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship, and good neighborliness.”
Here on the local front, our friendly neighborhood joint, the Pub at Pointe Orlando encourages a similar sentiment as it hosts its own four-day Queen’s Diamond Jubilee event. Because, let’s be honest, nothing induces the feeling of togetherness like drinking with strangers!
Coinciding with the U.K.’s Central Weekend (June 2-5), the Pub’s jubilee opens on Saturday, June 2 with a kick-off party featuring live music, drink specials (Fuller’s London Pride, Buck’s Fizz, Young’s Double Chocolate Stout), a signature “Diamond Jubilee” cocktail and, of course, the most English of them all (not!), Jell-O shots.
The revelry continues on Sunday with a Big Jubilee Brunch (see: build-your-own Bloody Marys), a free champagne toast and “beacon” lighting at Monday’s Royal Happy Hour, and then ends with a finale on Tuesday of more drink specials and a Glenmorangie whiskey tasting at the Queen’s Official Big Day party.
