Tea and crumpets traded for beer and Jell-O shots at Queenâs Diamond Jubilee
Sheâs reigned in England for 60 years now, so itâs only appropriate for Queen Elizabeth II to travel throughout the United Kingdom in celebration of herself, hosting derbies, luncheons, boat pageants and concerts.
Or as she previously put it, when commenting on the 2012 Queenâs Diamond Jubilee, âI hope we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship, and good neighborliness.â
Here on the local front, our friendly neighborhood joint, the Pub at Pointe Orlando encourages a similar sentiment as it hosts its own four-day Queenâs Diamond Jubilee event. Because, letâs be honest, nothing induces the feeling of togetherness like drinking with strangers!
Coinciding with the U.K.âs Central Weekend (June 2-5), the Pubâs jubilee opens on Saturday, June 2 with a kick-off party featuring live music, drink specials (Fullerâs London Pride, Buckâs Fizz, Youngâs Double Chocolate Stout), a signature âDiamond Jubileeâ cocktail and, of course, the most English of them all (not!), Jell-O shots.
The revelry continues on Sunday with a Big Jubilee Brunch (see: build-your-own Bloody Marys), a free champagne toast and âbeaconâ lighting at Mondayâs Royal Happy Hour, and then ends with a finale on Tuesday of more drink specials and a Glenmorangie whiskey tasting at the Queenâs Official Big Day party.
