Selection Reminder: Culture and Cocktails at Art & History Museums – Maitland!
Friday, Feb. 10 – Culture & Cocktails
Germaine Marvel Building
Art & History Museums – Maitland
210 W. Packwood Ave., Maitland
There’s a certain type of art-museum event at which the art is not the main event – flirting is. These monthly mingle nights, which often combine an ordinal with a day of the week (First Friday, Third Thursday and so on), are a strategy to attract visitors a few decades younger than the usual demographic with the promise of booze, music and other young people. This month’s second-Friday Culture & Cocktails at Maitland’s newly wedded art and history museums is a classic example of the genre: an exhibit by three younger local artists (Heaven’s Devils, work by Cake Marques, Cherie Dacko and Tracy Burke); a chance to peep at the art museum’s newest exhibit, Emerge, by Molly Chism; music from swamp-vaudeville folk-orchestra the Mud Flappers; and a pop-up reading by the Maitland Poets and Writers. Not to mention access to the Tastebuds Catering food truck and a free drink ticket included in price of admission. What better way to create a new generation of arts patrons? – Jessica Bryce Young
