“Food is a right, not a privilege!” and other things that get you arrested in the City Hateful
Our Jeff Gore was at ground zero this evening as five Food Not Bombs supporters were arrested for providing food to the needy at Lake Eola. This brings the total number of senseless arrests to 12 in the span of a week. If the city is trying to make a point, we hope it’s that Commissioner Patty Sheehan and Mayor Buddy Dyer are so satiated by their political hubris that they can’t possibly stomach any additional philanthropy from “food terrorists” with political ambitions … or whatever line it is they’re spinning these days. Both face re-election challenges next year and both should be concerned. We’ll have lots more on this later (as we have previously), but for now just take a minute to bask in the glow of the City Beautiful as it tries to pretend that somehow THIS is addressing a crime problem, or a poverty problem or a homeless problem. This is pathetic, mean and ridiculous. Send an email, make a sign, hide your kids, slouch toward hyperbole. More importantly, vote.
