Among this week’s concert announcements from Hard Rock Live was a show that should definitely be of interest to local lovers of soulful music. Next Saturday, January 15, the venue will host one of its “Livewire” locals-only shows, and this one will feature the Legendary J.C.’s and Kaleigh Baker, two of this city’s finest purveyors of soul music. Granted, the J.C.’s play R&B, so calling them “soul music” isn’t much of a stretch, but to deny the rich, ragged river of soul that flows through Ms. Baker’s rock ‘n’ roll voice is to be ignorant of what soul music really means. Yes, this paper is a long and strong advocate of Kaleigh Baker, and we won’t stop any time soon, but, really, you’d be a fool to miss this show. It’s only $10, and also features the funky Snafu and the joke-rock of the Whitey Tighties.

Also announced:

  • Two Classic Albums Live performances – Led Zeppelin I (Friday, Feb. 4) and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours (Friday, March 4).
  • The 18th Annual Hearts of Gold benefit for the Coalition for the Homeless. This year’s benefit will feature the super-theatrical extravaganza that is Beatlemania Now.
