Uber goes live in Orlando today

June 4, 2014

Today at about noon, transportation company Uber began operating in Orlando. Through June 20, you can try the service out for free (up to 10 trips at $20 each). The company, which hires individual car owners to taxi people around the city at fluctuating rates that vary depending on demand, started advertising for drivers here a while go. There was some speculation about whether the company would set up shop here, after a failed attempt to get the state to eliminate the minimum luxury car rate, but today the app went live.

Perfect for IDrive Orlando tourists wanting to go downtown and get rid of the annoying pedi cabs hopefully down there.

Because the pedicabs are half as annoying as all the illegal taxis that will charge up to $60 for 10 miles. The county refuses to regulate either racket.
