This mural of Puerto Rican baseball legend Roberto Clemente used to be painted on a wall near the concession stand at the baseball field at Azalea Park Elementary school:

Today, according to WFTV, it now looks like this:

Orlando Police say that Principal Kelly Maldonado called police to tell them that the mural had been vandalized – “It has been completely painted over by an unknown suspect,” the police report says. “Complainant Maldonado could not place a value on the cost to replace the mural as it cannot be repaired.”

No other information was available from the police, but an Instagram user going by the handle @noahdesigns has this to say:

The Roberto Clemente mural done by @nicertatscru at Azalea Park organized by my brother Earl and city officials including the mayor was recently defaced. Pro job no less (not graffiti) although all suspects deny involvement. Apparently a sponsor recently didn’t get his way and took it out on the mural. This mural was the shining light of that community and children of all ages had a hero to look up to. Please support this community. If you’re aware of the news, let them know this should not be taken lightly. [Someone] should be held accountable. #orlando#robertoclemente#clemente#vandalism#tatscru#nicer#bigearl#otown#azaleapark
A story in the Sentinel about the vandalism also alludes to a Little League dispute over sponsorship at the field.

I am a parent from that little league and that mural was the only thing positive about how the fields look. That is a very poor area, and the people from that area got a lot of inspiration from that mural as well. I pray they catch the culprit.
