Police Beat: Woman shot on Mercy Drive in Orlando today
Another shooting went down in Orlando today.
Orlando Police pulled a vehicle over in College Park at Edgewater Drive and Princeton Street, only to find a woman within suffering from a “non-life-threatening” gunshot wound. From there they transported her to the hospital.
Police spokesman Sgt. James Young said that the woman might have known her assailant, and that the shooting was initially reported to have occurred on the 1400 block of Mercy Drive – an area long notorious for its violent and larcenous crime. Officers are currently investigating.
Local shootings have been somewhat commonplace in 2014; there have been four homicides in Orlando thus far – one occurring over the weekend – and all involved firearms.
A series of accidental shootings have also been reported in the past month or two across the state, including a commuter who erroneously shot himself in the leg during a road-rage incident that escalated to gun threats on I-4 last month.
