According to MMA Corner, the recent UFC match that took place at the Amway Center on April 19 was a record-breaker – the match, which was the first of its kind held in Florida in two years, was a complete sellout and broke the record for the highest live gate in the history of the event. The day before the event, the UFC released an additional number of extra tickets because the event sold out so quickly, according to the Sentinel. UFC president Dana White originally wasn’t optimistic about hosting a fight in Orlando – the last time a UFC event was held in Florida, ticket sales were anemic. But, despite the fact that he claims he lost a lot of money on a bet with fellow UFC execs that the event would be a slump, White was pleased with the sellout crowd of 17,000 that packed the Amway to watch heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne go at it – MMA Corner says the fight brought in $1.65 million in tickets sales. And that UFC will be back in Orlando in the future as a result.
